Performing the Frame
A screening curated by Lucia Aspesi
On Thursday, December 18th 2014 at 9 pm HangarBicocca presents Performing the Frame, the fourth event in the HB Public programme devoted to the Light Time Tales exhibition by Joan Jonas. Curated by Lucia Aspesi, researcher at HangarBicocca, the video program is inspired by the relationship between moving images and performance in the work of Joan Jonas. Alongside videos by the artist herself, such as Organic Honey’s Vertical Roll e Glass Puzzle, the screening presents works by several artists and experimental film-makers creating an intense interaction between the rhythms of vision and Joan Jonas’s poetic universe.
FREE ADMISSION ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS (MAX. 70 PEOPLE) BY BOOKING
The feminine figure is the main artistic subject of most of the works, including historical pieces by Babette Mangolte, Maya Deren and David Haxton and recent videos of Trisha Baga. The program revolves around the presentation of bodies and movements described in a fragmented and stylized way whilst the presence of choreography and dance contribute to creating ambiguous and oneiric tales.
The HB Public programme devoted to Joan Jonas will continue in 2015: on Thursday, January 22nd 2015, Giovanna Zapperi, professor of History and Theory of Art at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art in Bourges, will give an open lecture on the subject of the feminine in the work of Joan Jonas, framing the figure of the artist within the broader setting of twentieth century art, from Duchamp to the feminist movements of the 1960s and 70s.
The HB Public programme is conceived and coordinated by Giovanna Amadasi in collaboration with the HangarBicocca Curatorial and Educational Department.
